About
Mission Statement: Our mission is to empower Latino women to make healthy choices and live free from violence.
Core Values:
Puertas Abiertas serves vulnerable Latinx adults and their children in Kent County. We promote the safety of victims/survivors of rural and urban domestic violence, human trafficking, stalking, sexual abuse, and workplace discrimination with culturally specific programs valuing diversity, addressing issues that arise when different cultures interact, powerfully incorporating participating individual and community cultures, as described by many US researchers.
Our objective is to provide culturally sensitive support groups to help men, women, and children cope with the daily demands of living as survivors of abuse. We empower them to take charge of their future and improve their mental health. We separate victims from abusers by changing living arrangements and providing emergency shelters.
Current Programs
The programs at Puertas Abiertas present resources, techniques, and activities that provide the survivors of domestic violence, victims, or any traumatic event with positive and therapeutic benefits. These benefits help them cope with many mental and emotional disorders and aid in the overall healing process, making positive effects in their lives and capable of achieving self-sufficiency. In addition to individual therapy, the organization offers:
