Shelter Meals

This volunteer project is best for individuals and small groups of 2-6 people. 

If you are volunteering with multiple people or a group, please have 1 person from your group complete the registration form. Additional group members will check-in when they arrive.

Provide a fresh meal for families at our Wyoming Park Family Shelter.  Volunteers plan a meal, purchase ingredients, and either prepare dinner onsite in our commercial kitchen, with the opportunity to stay for dinner service, OR drop off a ready-to-eat meal at dinnertime. Opportunities are available weekly on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.

What to Expect:

• Meals should serve 25-30 people (parents and children). Some ideas are below, but we also welcome your culinary creativity!
  • Pasta with breadsticks and salad
  • Sloppy joes with chips and cookies
  • Breakfast for dinner (eggs, bacon, hashbrowns, and orange juice)
  • Tacos with chips and salsa
  • Pizza with salad and fresh fruit
• If preparing the meal onsite, please arrive at 5pm. If dropping off, please arrive at 5:30pm. 
  • Onsite preparation best for individuals or small groups of 2-6 people due to kitchen size.
  • Cookware and utensils, silverware, and plateware are all available onsite.
• Dinner is served at 6pm.
  • Due to work schedules, after-school activities, or personal preference, not all families eat at 6pm on the dot. No food goes to waste though! If there are leftovers once dinner service ends, food is refrigerated and enjoyed by families over the next few days for lunch or dinner.
• Though certainly not expected, we appreciate if you are able to stay and help clean up. Volunteers are also welcome to eat and interact with families.
  • Please keep in mind some families may be eager to chat and others may prefer privacy. To ensure the comfort and dignity of all families, please be respectful of individuals' boundaries and allow them to lead engagement.
• There is always a staff member onsite to help or answer questions!
